Absolutley Hilarious! How cool is it that Weezer’s new album is called “Hurley?” Super Cool.

I feel like this somedays:
The inevitable impact of fatherhood on my geekery. September 30, 2009

Ben turns 4 months tomorrow, and although I love being a father, I can definitely say it is now much more difficult to be a geek. The time I used to have to surf the internet and I-tunes for music and movies is now spent searching for a medium size swaddle-me blanket (there isn’t one in case you were wondering, which is a real pain in the ass). I am certainly not complaining about this new role in my life trumping the “geek” role of my old life, I’m merely noticing something that I think is very common when it comes to being parents. We plateau!
Do you ever remember thinking to yourself, “why does my Dad only listen to that old music?” Well, it’s because you were born and he no longer had the energy to know who the hell Lady Ga Ga is! Well, I’m sure that’s not the only reason, but you get the picture. How about this question, “Why does my Mom still wear her hair that way?” It’s because that’s the style she had when she gave birth to you, and she doesn’t really give a crap anymore…this is even more obvious with the introduction of “Mom Jeans.”
For me personally, I still feel I know what’s going on with movies, I’m just not seeing them. Thank God for NetFlix, though actually getting to see a film at home is quite the accomplishment. I’m more interested in filming Ben and trying to make my own home movies than watching anything Michael Bay would direct.
Music is even worse. I used to consider myself on a musical safari, trying to find new bands and artists that I connect with. People still ask me what I listen to now, and I just weep a little inside, because I know they aren’t interested in listening to classical lullabies for babies! But, that’s ok, we can’t be on musical safari forever. Now I know why I had to listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival on road trips to Scales Mound, IL when I was a kid.
So, I thought I would use this post as a kind of “time capsule,” and list what I enjoy listening to right now, and see if it is what I would list 20 years from now!
1. Ray Lamontagne – favorite song is “Barfly“
2. Rilo Kiley – favorite song is “More Adventurous“
3. The White Stripes – favorite song is “Icky Thump”
4. Joshua Radin – favorite song is “Everything’ll be alright“
5. Kate Nash – favorite song is “Birds”
6. Kings of Leon – favorite song is “Manhattan“
7. Alexi Murdoch – favorite song is “All of these days“
8. Bloc Party – favorite song is “This Modern Love“
9. Soul Coughing – favorite song is “Soundtrack to Mary“
10. Journey – how can you pick a favorite song!

Does anyone else out there love Ray Lamontagne’s music? I do, and I’m also disturbed to hear his song “Trouble,” on a commercial with some dog. I guess I should be glad that Ray’s making some money, but a commercial with a dog? It’s just not right!
